Astrid folded what she hoped to be her last golden blouse into her suitcase and sighed. It was done. She was done. The packing was almost finished, Astrid just had to clean her desk, and she'd be ready to leave. Not a moment too soon, her dad would be getting impatient if she took any longer. Sitting on her suitcase, Astrid took a deep breath. She was leaving Pallet High, even the whole city of Pallet, Colorado was going to be just memories after today. Astrid was moving away. Hoisting herself up, Astrid turned around, and fumbled with the zipper as she sealed her school belongings.
Astrid had already prolonged leaving for a week, or two. Now she saw how foolish she actually was. To actually stay and meet people, go through a revelation or two? It wasn't worth the pain she was going to have once they left the town she had spent so much of her life in. But the future held many things for the young blind girl, and that was the ultimate point in why Astrid chose to leave with her father to move away. She had to experience something new.
No doubt that there was going to be challenges. After all, learning the layout of a whole new city; a school, then college? It was going to be tough. But Astrid was tough stuff. THough she was a bit scared, she was confidant in her abilities. She wasn't one to ask for help when the going got tough. She wasn't going to now.
Walking the suitcase to the door with the rest of the bags containing her school life, Astrid quickly cleaned off her desk and pulled on her Nike knapsack. It was time.
She walked out the door, with her present life sitting square on her shoulders. Nothing was going to be the same again.
It was bittersweet. Life is bittersweet. Astrid thought to herself as she walked across that courtyard, and into her dad's pickup truck. He greeted her with a hug, but Astrid could never see if he was smiling..
((This is Astrid's farewell post. Due to several reasons, I am archiving Astrid as a character of my past. Anyone who wants to post a short IC farewell to the character is welcome.))
