I'm getting a what?! (Dorm room 1b, Toliver)

Altair Itzel Bayon was laying down on his bed, but he would definitely never sleep there. The dorm beds held nothing on his own, which he could plop down on in the middle of the day and sleep out what he had missed the night before. Brushing the scraggly black hair out of his face, he studied his star charts that were taped all over the ceiling; even over the other bed. Not just the ceiling either, Altair had taped up different star charts all over the walls, his walls. It just didn't match up! how could last night's sky in Brazil be missing the spectacle? It's not logical! Altair looked between the charts in his hand and the one on his ceiling. Maybe, they were out of date? Or he printed off the wrong day's night sky? Altair just didn't know anymore.

Sitting up, Altair slammed down the star chart on his bed and let out a frusterated sigh. He should be able to figure out what is wrong, but no, he's too stupid and cloudy headed to find out why the two skies were different. But, Erica would be sitting here telling him that if he gives up on himself, she sure won't and will be forcing him to figure it out. Altair always found thinking about her was a help, but not today. He was in just too bad of a mood.

Altair stood up, not even wanting to lay eyes on the charts anymore. He needed to do something that would clear his mind. So he grabbed his notebook put a pen behind his ear and walked out of the room. Altair needed to be away for a while, so he went to the science building and sat in an empty classroom. He must have been there for a few good hours. Then, like he came, Altair stood up and left the classroom; clear headed, albeit a bit angry. While he walked cross campus, he did not say greet anyone, and they didn't greet him. It was a mutual relationship of I hate you/I'm better/ you'd be wasting my time. Altair never wanted any friends anyways, so why start now?

He walked into his room and tossed his notebook onto the computer chair that sat near his school desk. His desk was precisely neat, with everything, including his powerful laptop, exactly where it needed to be. The printer was down below, ontop of a box with various astrology material he supposedly needed for class. Altair, always confident in his abilities when it came to reading, was sure he'd memorize the material before class started anyways.

Taking a step into the room, he felt...and heard the sound of paper....being stepped on. Bending down, Altair took the envelope from underneath his sneakers and examined it. Itwas definitely school official, with the information listed on the side. Curious, Altair walked over to his desk and opened up the first drawer to grab his star shaped letter-opener out. Carefullu unsealing it, Altair sat down in the chair, oblivious of his notebook under his rear, and took the paper out of the envelope.

Dear Mr. Bayon,
We are pleased to inform you that you have been selected for a .......
............
............
.....We hope that you treat each other well, and that both years of your high school career will be a success!

Altair jumped out of his seat, expression bewildered. He was getting a roommate? After specifically requesting not to because of his phobia and disease? What was this malarky? Altair Itzel Bayon had been denied. And now he was going to have to spend the rest of his junior year with some prick named....named... Altair looked at the letter again. Toliver! He was going to have to share his precious room with some kid named Toliver! The letter said that the boy would be arriving shortly, so he must make the room presentable for his new 'friend.' Altair wasn't so sure he could call the intrude a friend.


Looking at the far side of the room, where this Toliver kid would be staying, Altair realized how much he had encroached on it. I guess I should clean some of it up, but if he takes my charts down all hell is breaking loose. Altair thought as he tossed the letter ontop of his laptop and went to pick up various items off of the floor, folding and setting them on his own cluttered bed. He wondered what this Toliver kid was like, or even if they would get along.

Going back to the office chair, Altair picked up his notebook, put it back in the bottom drawer of his desk and locked it back up. That was one place Toliver would never get to see. Opening his laptop, Altair got busy identifying why the two skies didn't match, determined to find out why he was wrong. Altair only knew that when this Toliver kid came, he was going to have to play it cool until he could lay down his rules. Luckily, Altair was always good at hiding what he thought and felt.

Another year, another school. When would the constant transfers end? Apparently, he was to be assigned a dorm and, most likely, a roommate. He held the handle of a fair sized suitcase that rolled in his right hand as he stared at the school from the entrance gate. In his left hand, he held a travel-sized suitcase that had all his photography things in it, including multiple digital cameras, his favorite Nikon, his laptop, and several other accessories he deemed necessary. “Well, not gonna get anywhere by just standing here…” he thought aloud, taking a step forward. He stood somewhat awkwardly in the main office as his counselor ran through the paperwork that had been faxed to them. “Please excuse me, I’m just skimming over these and… oh my… You seem to move quite a lot…” the woman’s voice trailed off. “Five times including this last move,” he said, shifting his weight a tad and setting down his travel suit case. He really didn’t want to play twenty questions. “So why don’t you tell me a little bit about yourself? I see that you’ve applied for majoring and Photography and minoring in Special Effects.” He inwardly sighed. He and his counselor had talked for nearly an hour, all the while delving into his past moves that Toliver really, honestly, didn’t want to get into. After what seemed like an eternity, Toliver found himself sitting alone in the counseling office as they entered his name into the systems. He figured that they would’ve already done that. After all, they e-mailed all his forms in at least two weeks in advance. Part of him urged him to dig into his bag of memory chips and go through photos of Bullhead, Arizona, but at the same time, he didn’t really want the bittersweet memories that came along with them. So he opted to take new photographs instead. He’d go through his photos another time. However, before he had enough time to grab one of his few cameras, his counselor came back with a paper in her hands. Taped to the top of the page was a single key. “Here you go, Mr. Copperfield. Your dorm is 1B, and you will be sharing with Mr. Altair Bayon. I do hope that you two get along. Would you like a map of the campus? Oh forgive me, you’ve probably already gone on one of our many tours. There’s a map in your handbook if you need it. If you need anything else, then feel free to come back here and ask the secretary. Or, you can ask one of the seniors leading the tours. They’re more than happy to help you.” Toliver simply nodded in response to her spiel. Well they were welcoming. He had to give the school kudos for that. He hastily folded the paper before walking out of the office with his rolling suitcase in tow. Yes, yes, he knew where the dorms were, but that was about the extent of his knowledge of the campus. He wasn’t all that interested in the tours. Toliver much preferred exploring things in his own time and on his own free will. But first, to the dorm to drop off his stuff. He’d have to keep his camera’s hidden well. To say that Toliver was less than trusting was a bit of an understatement. Lucky for him, his dorm was on the first floor, so walking up stairs was not going to be a hassle. That was nice. He unfolded the paper and separated the key from it. “Here goes nothing,” he took a deep breath before pushing the key into the lock and turning it. With a click, the door knob turned and the door opened. It was small. Then again… what was he expecting exactly? Dorms were notorious for being small. The first thing that Toliver noticed wasn’t the other boy already occupying the space (though that was a very close second) but the numerous charts hung around the room. He made a note that they even stretched across whatever ‘middle line’ there may have been and into the section of the room he assumed to be his. He stepped into the room and closed the door behind him. “Hello,” he said, not quite sure if there was a certain way he was supposed to introduce himself or if there was some sort of boundary already set. “Uh…” his hand left the handle of his suitcase to awkwardly press against the back of his neck. “I’m Toliver, your, uh, dorm mate…” he offered a half-hearted smile, wishing that this Altair kid hadn’t been in the room at the time. Then again… maybe this was for the best so the other guy wouldn’t walk in to randomly see a new kid in his room. It was a lose-lose situation either way.

((This'll be shorter, but at least it's finally going up.))

Altair sat at his desk, glued to the computer screen, typing out an email to the controller of the camera from which the photo was taken, a farmer/budding astrology fanatic who lived in the southern part of Brazil. Altair had only contacted him once before, andthat was to ask why his images were not up to par with image resolution standards for the company he sold them to. It was important to people like Altair that these things were up to par, it made all the difference. This time, Altair was emailing him about camera positions; he wanted to know if the camera got knocked around in the night to cause the discrepencies in the skylines. There was no other possible explantion to why it cou-

Altair was interupted by the sound of someone speaking. That someone turned out to be the already infamous Toliver. Altair looked at the boy, who seemed oriental in decent, with hair longer than his and a suitcase. There's no way it's not him. Altair concluded as he watched 'Toliver's' eyes sweep the room. It was then Altair realized he never took the star charts off of the other bed. It was too late for that now.

After watching Toliver stumble over himself for a good minute, he finally seemed to get out the essential reasons for showing up and barging in. “I’m Toliver, your, uh, dorm mate…” The teen said, and Altair gave a fake smile to the boy. Standing up and shutting his laptop, Altair tried his best to greet the person who ruined his dorm life. And to not either a) make a fool of himself, or B) let on the slightest inkling that he actually enjoyed having Toliver here, which, he did not.

"Well, it's....uh....good to meet you then, Toliver. I'll get to moving those charts off of your bed as soon as I finish composing this email." Altair said coolly as he gestured to his laptop. Letting the smile fall, Altair sat back down in his chair and wheeled around to face his laptop, opening the lid. He then continued to speak to the intruder, telling him where exactly his things go.

"You can tell the bed with all the crap on it is mine, so set yours on your own bed. You have the left dresser, and the desk in that far corner. I'll move my boxes off of that as well. Don't touch any of my things until I get to move them, some are fragile." Altair said as he clacked away on his keyboard. "I'm Altair by the way, don't call me by anything else." He finished as he typed a quick signature on the email and sent it on it's virtual way to Brazil.

Wheeling back around, he waited for a reply from Toliver, and then he got up to remove his boxes from the other desk. There was nothing he could do now in his dormmate situation and the different sky situation but wait, so wait he did.
