frequently asked questions !
Do you have questions? Here's a good place to start for answers! If you still need clarification or don't see your question here, feel free to consult a staff member.
Q: What is this site, anyway?
A: We’re a Pokemon Personified site. All this means is that our characters are real, believable people that are simply based off of Pokemon. They don’t have any weird markings or powers, and we live in the modern-day world in the little town of Pallet, Colorado. You don’t need to know a lot about Pokemon to join in on the fun - we have lots of resource sites to refer you to that can essentially walk you through the process, plus friendly members and staff who’d be happy to help you!
Feel free to check out this thread for more info.
Q: What does having a Pokémon personality entail, exactly?
A: In short, it means that your human character’s personality is based on the traits exhibited by your Pokemon of choice, whether that be appearance, behavior, or abilities. Really, what it means depends on what you want it to mean. For example, maybe you’re making a character based on Squirtle: you could choose to make him or her a very confident student who is an important part of Pallet’s swim team, based on Squirtle’s water-type attacks. Or, you could make them a very shy, withdrawn individual, inspired by Squirtle’s ability to pull itself into its shell to protect itself.
Q: Are teachers allowed?
A: At the current moment, only high school age students are allowed. However, once there are enough students for them to teach, they will be added, so stay tuned!
Q: I can haz Pikachu/Mudkip/Mewtwo/Pidgey?
A: Well, it depends. Common Pokemon, like Pidgey, can be used by up to three different characters, whereas slightly less common or more popular Pokemon like Pikachu can be used up to two times, and a legendary Pokemon or a Pokemon who has been heavily featured in a movie can only be claimed by one character. Sorry in advance if the Pokemon you wanted to base your character around is taken. This system just exists to insure that we don’t have a million Pikachus running around and only one or two other Pokemon; wouldn’t that be boring? This also allows for people to take several different stances on the same Pokemon - for instance, someone could create Ash’s Pikachu, while another could create a Pikachu character solely based on their ideas of what they think Pikachu would act like.
To know whether the Pokemon you want is available to be used or not, check our Pokemon list.
Q: So can my character be like a pokemorph?
A: Sorry, but no. Here, we’re trying to recreate pokemon as actual, believable people. Therefore, we’re not going to have students sprouting wings and flying around or having animal ears/tails.
Q: Does my character evolve? If I have a Zubat that is a freshman, for instance, does it become a Golbat in-character when it moves up to tenth grade?
A: No, your character remains whatever character you base it off of. However, there are characters that can be the evolutions that are somehow connected to your character. For example, if you play Zubat, someone else can play his older brother, Golbat. Relationships between Pokemon are completely up to you, however. Check out our Plot thread for more information on that.
Q: If my character is based on a fire type pokemon, can they not be friends with someone who’s based on a water type pokemon?
A: It’s fine. In the series, all the pokemon seem to get along regardless of type. However, if the two characters’ personalities don’t work well with each other, then they may not get along. Again, these characters are like real people. Unless there’s just no chemistry between them, then they can be friends. Or, if you want, they could be enemies. It’s all up to you, really.
Q: Are there any qualifications for creating a Legendary Pokemon character?
A: No. You don’t have to reach a certain post count, have a certain number of characters, or anything like that. The expectations are slightly higher for a legendary as far as writing and clarity, but you don’t need any previous qualifications to create one. Please be aware that there is a limit of only one legendary Pokemon per player!
Q: My character’s team consists of a lv 5 Caterpie, a lv 10 Geodude...
A: Pokemon do not exist in the Pallet universe. None of the flora and fauna native to Pallet, Colorado can use Hyperbeam or Razor Leaf. Trust us. We’ve checked.
Q: Do the Pokemon games exist in this universe?
A: Absolutely. I would assume they are not a super important part of people’s lives, since most high schoolers (present company excluded) have grown out of such things. But this is the modern world, no exceptions. On that note, please try to leave all anger about politics, religious debates, and other controversial things at the log in page. You are welcome to discuss these things in the OOC forum politely, but please be aware of the distinction between PHS and the real world.
Q: Can my character have extreme unnatural eye or hair color?
A: Your character may possess colored contacts or dyed hair, but they may not be born with such characteristics. Some colors, such as yellow, light purple, bright blue, and bright green, are more plausible as a naturally occurring color, and may be included in character descriptions. As per IC school policy, no more than one half of your character’s hair may be dyed. (This is done to simulate actual school policies.)
Q: May I use artwork in place of a real person for a portrayer?
A: In general, yes. It is preferable that the artwork be somewhat realistic and comply with our no anime rule (which was put in place to prevent there being any Narutos playing Pikachu and so on). This is usually judged on a case-by-case basis, so please respect staff decisions on your chosen artwork.
Q: May I thread with myself?
A: Certainly! If you have a few characters that you play and you want to see in a thread together, that's fine. However, it is a strong recommendation that you leave the thread open so others may play with you as well. On that note, you may also do solo threads to allow for character development. Just make sure you play with others, too!
