The air was turning brisk in Pallet, Colorado. The leaves had mostly fallen, though there were a few stubborn survivors. The red, orange, yellow, and brown crackling underfoot announced that fall was fully set, and winter would be there soon. People in the streets of Pallet were not too numerous in this weather. Most were staying indoors. Jynx was bundled in a red sweater and a dark purple scarf, jeans, and wearing a pair of red boots that she was very proud of of. She wanted to go somewhere, but she couldn't decide where yet. As she walked past the mexican cantina, however, she smelled warm tortillas and enchiladas, and her stomach rumbled. So what if she was trying to diet a little? A small plate of chicken enchiladas wouldn't hurt.
Jynx changed directions and walked into the cantina. She waited for a few minutes until a hostess came over and took her to a table. She was informed that a waiter would be there shortly to take her order, and in the meantime, she ordered a Sprite. Jynx opened the menu and looked eagerly at the tasty looking options. She found the combo order that she was looking for (two chicken enchiladas, rice and beans plus a small salad to make herself feel healthier), and closed the menu.
She waited. Ten minutes passed. She started frowning. Where was her Sprite? It wasn't like it was hard to fill a cup from a drink machine, was it? She was about to get up when the hostess walked over, apologizing, and gave her her Sprite, which even had a lime on the side of the cup. She grudgingly accepted the cup, and took a sip of the Sprite. Why had that taken so long? And where was the waiter? There were only about five people in the cantina including herself. It wasn't as though he had a lot of work to do.
Thus began another waiting game. She sipped slowly at her Sprite, gettting more and more irritated by the minute. And many minutes passed. Nearly thirty minutes after she had walked in, a waiter approached and smiled, asking if she was ready.
"Ex-cuse you, man, but I've been ready for the last thirty damn minutes!" She couldn't help her outburst, and though she wasn't happy about it, it was nice to see the waiter flinch back and try to offer an excuse for why he had been so late, but she cut him off. "No, you listen! I been waitin' here so damn long, you'd think you'd forgotten about me! You need to get on yourself so you ain't so slow!"
"B-but, miss, I was going as fast as I can..." The waiter murmured feebly, twiddling his fingers.
"That's what you call fast? Look here," Jynx looked around and saw a boy sitting at a table near hers. She called to him, hoping for back-up. "Hey, excuse me! Do you think this guy," She pointed at her flabbergasted waiter. "Is goin' too damn slow? Tell me this fool isn't slow, I dare you."
Summary: [/i] Jynx was walking past the Lombre Cantina, and smells the food. She gets hungry and walks in. She waits for about ten minutes for her drink, and then thirty minutes before the waiter comes to take her order. She explodes at him for being so slow. She then turns to a boy near by and asks him if he feels similarly. She's hoping for back up in her opinion. Comments:[/i] Oh, Jynx. Why you so mad? xD Have fun, James~ [/blockquote]

Murdoch, having just finished stowing away his stuff in his dorm, decided to head out for a walk to get a look at the nearby area. Murdoch took his camera with him, as he always did, for no real reason other than to have it. Murdoch looked around at the signs of winter rapidly approaching. He enjoyed the winter almost as much as he did the fall. He had a blue zip-up hoodie on over his black t-shirt, his jeans and sneakers on, with a pair of gloves in case his hands got cold and also a couple of mints in his pockets. Murdoch stopped and took a break to sit down on a park bench, when he did he actually ended up taking a brief nap on the bench. He must have been asleep for a while, because when he awoke, he was thoroughly cold. He needed to be inside somewhere, but he wanted to see a little more.
Thus began his brisk walk to find shelter from the cold. He spent a good ten minutes walking around until a very enticing smell hit his nose, the smell of a mexican restaurant. He quickly followed his nose until he found the restaurant. He took to his seat and looked over his menu. After about 3 minutes the waiter came and asked him "Hello sir, what can I get for you?" Murdoch looked up at him with a light smile and his Scottish accent "Could I just get a cup of coffee?" The waiter nodded and headed to the back. Murdoch, in his boredom, did what he always does and started fiddling with his camera. After a bit he heard his waiter's voice over his shoulder, saying "Wow, that's a really nice camera!" Murdoch turned and said "Thanks you know cameras?" It was this statement that started what must have been a 20 minute conversation, at the end of which the waiter left to get back to work. Murdoch was happy until he heard a commotion. He turned to see the waiter he had talked with being chewed out by a girl. To make matters worse, she then called on him for validation. Murdoch nervously stated "Well actually uh, it's my fault he took so long.... I held him up talking about cameras,"

"Are... Are you serious? Really?"
Jynx stared incredulously at the boy she had asked for confirmation. She had hoped he would back her up, maybe say that he too had been waiting for a long time for his order, only to hear him say that he was the cause of making the waiter thirty minutes late.
"This better be a joke," She said shortly. She could feel her anger bubbling up. Perhaps it wasn't good for her to get so angry, but when someone is hungry, common sense and rationality go out the window.
"Cameras? Is that even a real topic of conversation? You," She pointed to the waiter, who shuffled his feet nervously. "Have a job to do. You can't just go messing around about cameras with some kid. And you," She rounded on the brown haired boy, who looked somewhat abashed. "You shouldn't be distracting people who have to work. They have a job. Maybe you should get one and figure out what that means!"
Jynx took a deep breath and another sip from her Sprite when she was through with her brief rant. "Number Three combo. It better be here damn fast, or there'll be trouble." The waiter scurried away into the kitchen, and Jynx sighed grumpily, folding her arms tightly across her chest to show her irritation. Today had been a good day, and she had just been hungry. Now she was irritable. It figured. What was wrong with some people?
Summary: [/i] Jynx is incredulous and furious at Murdoch's confession. She goes on a rant at him and the waiter about how he has a job and it's his duty to do it, and Murdoch should know better than to distract someone with a job. She makes her order and the waiter runs off to fulfill her order. She becomes grumpy, refusing to look around at one, and fumes inwardly about "some people." Comments:[/i] Yup, she be mad. xD (Let me know if you can't reply to this and I'll see if I can add more action or something...) [/blockquote]

Murdoch's eyes hit the floor as the girl began to berate him. Murdoch could feel his self esteem falling since he had made a fool out of himself and the waiter. It was at this point he remembered what he'd been taught about righting any wrongs he makes. Murdoch knew what he had to do now in order to save a little bit of what remained of his self esteem and hopefully make things a little better.
He waited there and let the girl finish with her tongue lashing, after which she went ahead and placed her order. Once she did this he got up and walked over to the two of them, pulling out a couple of bills from his wallet as he did so. "I'm really sorry, I want to apologize to both of you," Murdoch started to say as he handed the waiter the bills he had. "I'll pay for her meal, and I'll get out of your hair shortly," Murdoch then added as he slumped back toward his seat. He promptly sat down and took a big drink of his cup of coffee.

Jynx saw his eyes drop and felt a little pang of guilt. She didn't want it to last long, though - he deserved a bit of that. He should know not to distract people at their jobs, friends or no. She shuffled more comfortably into her seat, taking a moody sip out of her Sprite as she did so.
She was completely surprised when he came up to her table before the waiter had scurried off entirely. He put some crumpled bills into the waiter's hand, and apologized, offering to pay for her meal with his money. He apolgized again, promised to leave soon, and sat down back at his table. All Jynx could do for a few minutes was stare at the money he had so kindly offered, now held in the waiter's hand. Why would he do that?
With a small glimmer of guilt, she realized that he actually did feel really sorry about what he had done, and knew she couldn't take the money. She held out her hand, and the waiter gave it to her, and went off back into the kitchens to get her order out to her. She held the money in her hands, thinking for a moment. She smiled. It was nice to see somone who actually wanted to right their wrongs.
She stood up and walked over to his table. "Hey..." She started a bit awkwardly, then held out the money to him. "Thanks. Really. Sorry I got kinda mad at ya, but I can't take your money. I really appreciate it, though."
Another pause elapsed, then she decided to try being friendly, at least a little bit. "So, uh, you go to Pallet High? I'm Jynx, by the way. Jynx Winters. Who're you?" She asked, trying a smile.
Summary: [/i] Jynx is still grumpy, and then Murdoch comes and apologizes, handing money to the waiter. She sits there for a second, wondering why he would do that, then feels bad about getting that mad at him. She takes the money from the waiter and offers it back to him. There's a few semi-awkward pauses, and then she asks his name, and if he goes to PHS. Comments:[/i] Jynx felt bad. xD I like Murdoch~ [/blockquote]

As Murdoch sat back down, he let out a sigh and took another sip of his coffee. Although he was still somewhat sad, he felt better about it having done what he did. With a weird smile on his face, he proudly took a drink of his coffee. As he set his mug down, he looked up, chuckled and said under his breath in a much heavier Scottish accent "If everyone thought they were always right, then the world would be wrong," Murdoch then let out another laugh, leaned back and took another drink from his mug, finishing his coffee.
Murdoch then turned to ask for another cup of coffee to go, but when he did this he saw the girl heading his way. He rushed back around and lowered his head, worried of what might happen next and if she heard him talking like his grandfather. Then she started apologizing to him, offering him his money back. Murdoch took it with a wary look on his face. He then said "Don't worry about it, your right, it was my fault, but thanks however, to be honest i'm kind of on a tight budget," Murdoch said. It was this point another one of his grandfather's lessons rang in his head. Murdoch then scrambled out of his seat, and pulled out a chair for her, saying "Would you like to sit down?" Murdoch then responded to her second statement with a "Yeah, I transferred today actually, I had set all my stuff up and then figured I'd go for a walk, because walking and jogging is my preferred exercise. Then I got cold, so I followed my nose and came here," Murdoch sat there for a moment with a half smile, then realized he'd let out one little detail, which promptly made him blurt out "Oh, my name's Murdoch, Murdoch MacGowan. It's good to meet you, although I wish under slightly better circumstances."

Jynx felt better when he accepted the money. She didn't want to take it, and she had money to pay for her own food. Plus, she felt a little guilty (just a little!) for chewing him and the waiter out. The waiter deserved it, though. He should have known better than to fool around while he was on the job.
She voiced this thought when he tried to say that it was his fault, "Not entirely. He should have known how to say, 'I've got an order to take, sir,' rather than runnin' his mouth. But no worries, all right?" She smiled again, this time a more genuine smile.
She was surprised when he pulled out a chair and asked her if she wanted to sit down, and her smile became wider. "Now that is something I can appreciate: manners! Just let me get my crap here..." She walked back to her table, grabbed her Sprite and purse and sat down in the chair he pulled out for her. She liked this feeling - being treated like the lady that she was. She leaned on the table, hands held to her head as she listened to him say that he had just transferred that day. Wow, he was new. That made her feel worse - she had been messing with him on his first day. Jesus, that made her look pretty bad.
"Welcome to Pallet, then, I guess. And I admire you runnin'. I don't do much exercise, myself," Jynx glanced at her own layers (not just the layers of clothing) and grimaced slightly. "Not my thing, really." She left out the part where she mentioned that she didn’t like any kind of exercise much. She and her family considered a little weight healthy, though she was pushing the definition of “a little weight.”
He suddenly blurted out his name, making her laugh and smile. "Nice to meet you, Murdoch. I'm Jynx Winters. And I'm sorry that I made those circumstances more lousy for ya." She shrugged and smiled apologetically. She took a sip out of her Sprite glass before speaking again.
"So what kinda name is that? Murdoch MacGowan? Sounds Irish or something." Jynx asked. She didn't usually think too much before she spoke. She just said what was on her mind. It kept the conversation going, at least.
Summary: [/i] Jynx feels relieved when Murdoch takes the money. She tells him it was entirely his fault, and that the waiter should have known better, too. She’s delighted with his manners (pulling out her chair and asking her if she wanted to sit down), and feels special (brownie points for Murdoch). She welcomes him to Pallet, wincing at how she was mean to him on his first day, and compliments him on his running. She introduces herself after him, and then asks him about his name, since you don’t always meet people named Murdoch. Comments:[/i] None this time~ [/blockquote]

Murdoch smiles as she sits down, saying "Well my granddad always told me to treat ladies with kindness and respect, or else you're not a real man," Murdoch then sat down, taking another sip of his drink. He then said "Well you don't need to, you're fine just the way you are, I just do it because I have a wee bit of free time on my hands." Murdoch then smiled when she questioned his name. "It's Scottish actually, and trust me my accent can be worse. Anyways, my granddad was a Scottish immigrant. Neil Seamus MacGowan," Murdoch's smile faded at this and he took another drink. "But anyways, tell me a bit about you,"

Murdoch smiled at her exclamation over his manners, and explained that his grandfather had always taught him that if he wasn't good to the ladies, then he wouldn't be considered a man. Jynx grinned, nodding appreciatively. She wished more guys were taught like that and actually believed it. She raised her glass of Sprite like a toast.
"Your grandaddy was a smart man," she chuckled, tipping the glass toward him in a salute, and took a sip from her cup herself.
Jynx laughed dryly, but shrugged amiably at Murdoch's comment about her not running. "Well, it's a good thing to do with your spare time," she added nonchalantly.
She was relieved when they moved onto his name. She knew he hadn't been attacking her or anything (just the opposite, really), but she didn't like feeling that she should do something. She was great just the way she was, it wasn't her fault she had extra padding for all of those Alaskan winters.
"Scottish, oops. Well, tomato-tomatoh, hmm?" Jynx chuckled at the idea. "And you have a great accent, hun. I like it," she added with a sly wink. Not that that meant anything - she called nearly everyone she was on remotely friendly terms with "hun" or "honey." It was just her term of endearment, or something like that. She saw him get a little sad when he talked about his grandfather. That was the second time he had come up in the brief conversation - he must have been important to Murdoch.
She was, however, delighted to talk about herself. "Well, I'm from Alaska - Daddy's one of the oil supervisors up there, and it's great. The winters there are more fun than they are here, but sometimes I gotta stay here for school or somethin'. I'm a Cosmetic Arts major - working with hair is my calling in life. Hmm..." Jynx suddenly starting eying Murdoch critically.
"Ya know... I know just what I could do with that hair to make it just pop! You let Jynx have her twenty minutes, and I could get the ladies falling at your feet for Scottish love ballads," she grinned at the idea, though she could easily imagine what she would do with it. A little bit of layering, maybe a sweep to the side, and he would be the most handsome Scotsman around, if Jynx knew what she was doing.
And Jynx knew what she was doing.
Summary: [/i] Jynx compliments his grandfather's advice, and mumbles something about the running. She is very light about the Irish/Scottish difference (silly Jynx), and starts talking about herself at Murdoch's request. She also gets an idea about fixing Murdoch's hair. Comments:[/i] A mite slow, sorry about that! (Hee hee, Jynx~ <3) [/blockquote]

Murdoch leaned in as he raptly listened to Jynx, blushing as she complimented him, saying with a smile "W-well thank you, that means a lot to me" When she finished telling him about herself, Murdoch spoke saying "Man, Alaska, that must've been some interesting times," Murdoch then got a little nervous as she started eyeing his hair. He was a very simplistic guy, and he was fairly nervous about his hair. "Well I don't know.... maybe if you are sure you can make it look good, then ok," Murdoch said slowly and unsteadily.

"Sure, hun, I mean what I say. And yes, Alaska was a pretty fabulous place. The winters were gorgeous," Jynx grinned and waved a hand airily as she complimented him and answered his comments over Alaska. She acted nonchalant, but she really loved giving people compliments, especially when they reacted as well as Murdoch was. She took another sip of her drink. The waiter was taking awhile again, but she had someone to talk to, and so she didn't feel quite as rushed or agitated. She was willing to wait.
Especially when Murdoch said she could play with his hair! She perked up instantly. "Ooh, you won't regret this, honey, I promise! Let me just figure out what I'm going to do, and then we'll be in business!" She giggled excitedly, already planning in her head just how great Murdoch would look after his make-over.
