Sad, Strange Little Girl (Open)

If Tai ever wanted to achieve the rank of second dan she needed to train harder. As it turned out the sensei at the dojo was a bit of a softy. He didn't push as hard as her last sensei had. It was a bit disappointing. No matter how talented this man was in the arts he didn't push her as much as she wanted him to. It was the only way she was going to learn. Therefore Tai had taken matters into her own hands. Not only did she suddenly begin to train her karate more, but she also focused on her studies more. Her dance was starting to fall behind and she couldn't let that happen. So since near the end of the summer semester she had been focusing all her energy on working out and studying.

Tai just finished making sure her ponytail looked alright up on her head before heading out of her dorm room. She walked out with a dark blue tank top and black pants. She began to head for the track field. It would be the best place for her to focus on her jog. When she hit the cold outdoors she was a bit shocked. She had nearly forgotten it would be freezing outside at about this time of the year. It didn't matter though, she was planning on working up a sweat despite the cold. Once at the track she began to stretch out. First her legs, then a bit of her arms and sides, and then back to her legs. After taking in a deep cold breath, she watched two girls pass by her laughing together. When she exhaled, she realized that she really hadn't made a single friend at Pallet and that she rarely got to see her brother anymore. As she thought about this she became a bit upset with herself for isolating herself.

After thinking over what Tai should do to stop being isolated, she started to head for Pallet's town square. Since it was a Saturday surely some other kids were out and about town. It wasn't like everybody sat inside all day and studied. Haha it wasn't likely to see at all really. However, all of this did not mean Tai was giving up her jog. Oh no, she would just run around for awhile and maybe stop to try and introduce herself to someone. The thought made her a bit nervous, afterall she had been at Pallet all summer and yet she didn't have a single friend. It was almost funny really.

Once Tai had run around for about thirty minutes, she finally 'targeted' someone as her victim. After wiping off a bit of sweat, she approached the person seated on a bench.

"Uhm, hey!" She said pushing a piece of hair behind her ear. "Do you rememberme? We met the night of the play. I accidentally ran into you, replaced your lemonade." Gosh she felt stupid after all that, but she gave a little laugh after her words."So what're you up to on this fine day? Sure you're pleased to hear my running outside this time." she asked as she sat down besides them on the bench. It suddenly occured to her that she just might smell.

It was really starting to get cold outside. Bartholomew knew that it would be time to start covering the plants, and many would die from the cold. But that was the cycle of life - they died, only to become fruitful in the spring and summer once again. If only people were like that - if they disappeared during the hard time and were reborn during the good times.

But then if that happened, Bartholomew mused, who would learn from their mistakes?

Bartholomew had taken a break from his studying. He had several tests coming up, but he wanted to get outside and feel the air, to make sure that he stayed focused on his studying later. He strode down the paths toward town, not really sure where he was going. He was bundled in a dark green jacket with a stylized tree on it, a teal beanie hat, and dark colored jeans. His breath formed little white clouds as he exhaled, and he amused himself by breathing out to make a stream of steam. A child's amusement, but it was still fun no matter the age.

He arrived in the town square to see the fountain had been turned off. There was still water in the pool, but there was no longer a flowing stream of water like there had been during the summer. He took a seat on the bench near the fountain, watching the people walk by in groups, huddling together to stay warm. Most of the people were students, but some of the townspeople were out and about as well. Bartholomew sat, wondering how all of the trees in the town square would hold up and thinking about his family as they readied the farm for winter. That was always a production, and would take a lot of work. Bartholomew found himself missing it. He wondered if he would be going home for winter break - his family probably wouldn't mind.

"Uhm, hey!"

He looked up to see a girl walking over to him. "Do you remember me?" She asked. "We met the night of the play - I accidentally ran into you, replaced your lemonade."

Bartholomew nodded to show his recognition, but remained quiet. He couldn't say he really remembered all that much about her, but he did remember her knocking over his drink at the play. He also remembered, with some amusement, how he had advised her to run outdoors and to watch where she was going. He was glad to see she was following his advice.

She sat down next to him. "So what're you up to on this fine day? Sure you're pleased to hear my running outside this time." She offered with a laugh, and Bartholomew smiled.

"I am glad to hear you're not running around indoors, though it might be worth it to be inside in this cold. I'm doing well, just a bit cold. I needed a break from studying, though. I have a few tests on Monday, so I'll need to work on those, but I've realized that too much studying doesn't help me after awhile." Bartholomew explained with a shrug, watching his breath precipitate and fade into the air. He glanced over at her. "What about you, um... Remind me of your name again? I'm sorry, the play was awhile ago..."


Summary:

[/i] Bartholomew muses about random stuff for awhile, and then Tai comes over and talks to him. He explains what he's doing outside, and asks for her name again, since he doesn't remember it fully. (Not sure if they did intros at the play or not.)

As Tai pushed a loose piece of hair behind her ear as she listened. She gave a bit of a chuckle when he said that too much studying didn't help after awhile. "I know exactly what you mean. I've kind of disappeared off the planet since the play because I've been focusing on school work and improving my karate." Only after she said it did she realize it could be a good conversation starter, which was what she was going after. Conversation was the key to finding mutual interests which eventually led to friendships.

"That was why I came out here for a change. Usually I just run on the track at the school, but y'know. Gotta change it up sometimes," said Tai with a smile. She shivered as he spoke again. Dang she was starting to wish she had snagged a jacket.

"It's Tai, I'm a dance major, what about you?"

Bartholomew nodded as the runner expressed her sympathy for his too much studying, and how she had dedicated herself to her karate after the play. It was true that he hadn't seen her around, but that didn't really bother him - he usually didn't notice people in his classes or in the halls unless he spoke to them frequently, or if they left a memorable impression or image in his mind.

"Yes, it's good to have some change in your life, though perhaps a jacket would have been helpful for this change," Bartholomew smiled as she shivered, and tucked his hands into his jacket pockets. It really was cold outside. If he had been a gentlemen, maybe he would have offered her his jacket, but the thought didn't cross his mind.

"Well, hello, Tai. I'm Bartholomew, Horticulture major. Nice to re-meet you, I suppose," He chuckled, and (somewhat reluctantly) extended his hand out of his pocket as an offer of a handshake of greeting.


Summary:

[/i] Bartholomew listens to her, tells her it's cold (basically), and introduces himself. (I was thinking about offering for them to go inside, but I wasn't sure where to fit it in.)
