Wow, it's so beautiful up here. I just...I just want to sing about it!
It was never this cold in Hawaii. Hawaii was always warm and sunny. It wasn't like Melody hated the snow. She just hadn't lived with it all her life. It came as quite a shock when she moved to Kansas and the snow attacked without mercy. Stacked flake atop flake for feet in the air, Melody experienced the fact that snow as beautiful until man-kind touched it. WHen you drove over it, it became dirty slush. When you disturbed it, the delicate snow drifts were crushed down. She didn't dislike snow-angels and snowmen, but she much preferred to be looking at the snow and not disturbing it. It was as foreign to her as she was to kansas that first year.
Later on Melody Kohnas learned how snow had a way of seeping into your very soul if you stayed in it too long. It made your exposed skin cold and numb, like it was stretching itself. Playing in the snow exhausted her, so she was glad to find that now had a sidekick. Hot Chocolate. Melody had never encountered this drink either, so to come in from the bright land outside to warm her innards with a drink she'd only ever read about was a delicious treat indeed, figuratively and literally. Since then, Melody had developed a custom to always drink hot chocolate if she had to venture out in the snow. There was now question about it. Going outside meant the next time she walked into her dorm, the sweet aroma of chocolate was going to fill the air. She couldn't get enough of it.
Always looking for a chance to see snow and have the delicious hot beverage later in the day, Charmaine Melody Kohnas took it upon herself to go explore the campus for the most breath-taking spot laden with snow. As quickly as she thought the idea up, Mel was already pulling on her dark grey peacoat and light blue scarf(A gift from Chance from past christmases,) and some taller black boots to ward off the touchy cold fingers of winter. Sliding a white beret on her small head, the short hawaiian girl trekked out of her dorm, smiling huge as she searched for the perfect spot to waste time.
Melody looked all around the campus. The courtyard would've been pretty except for the fact that all the snow was already trampled by students. There wasn't a lot of snow to begin with, but it still detracted from the sight. Walking around the different buildings, Melody found several nice places, but she knew in her heart that not one of them was a place she'd feel comfortable just staring at until she went numb. Rubbing gloved hands together, Melody walked near the gym and the stables; the latter was very picturesque. Still not finding what she was looking for, Melody decided to give some of the school buildings another look.
Remembering what her science teacher had said about the terrace on top of the Celadon wing, Melody figured it worth a shot and climbed the stairs towards the top of the building. Something told Melody that this would be a spot she'd come to like, so she was eager to see it. Watching her exhaling breath turn into vapor as she climbed the stairs, Mel hada fleeting thought that involved sharing this moment with her grandmother, and decided that she was going to write to her later. Opening up the door to the Terrace, Melody gasped.
It was gorgeous. Absolutely stunning. The greenhouse was exceptional as well. The small abundance of flowers were powdered with just the right amount of snow, and the ground was virtually untouched. Save for someone else's footprints. Excited beyond belief, Melody ran over to one of the short walls that gave her a view of the commons. It was breathtaking as well. SHe couldn't see the footprints from up here, so everything looked better.
"Wow, it's so beautiful up here. I just...I just want to sing about it!" Melody exclaimed as she turned around slightly in the snow. Her boots made it easier to move around, and she felt absolutely blissful. It was during one of these circular movements that Melody noticed the other person on the terrace with her. They had their back to the short girl, but still, the head looked familiar to Melody. The boy, as Melody felt it was, was kneeling in the snow looking for something frantically.
It's probably something important, since he seems to be looking awefully hard for it. Maybe I should help. Melody thought as she walked up behind the boy and knelt beside him. Sliding her gloves off, Melody began to look for anything suspicious in the snow as well. Immediately the snow froze her fingers, so to speak and she stopped herself from letting out a gasp as she realized the boy had no gloves as well.
He's got to be freezing! Melody thought as she decided to spare a glance at the person she was helping.
It was someone she had not seen in a while. Toliver Copperfield, a fellow junior like herself and one who was an exceptional photographer. Melody did let out a gasp this time. She hadn't seen Tolly in a while, and it was only as of now that she realized that she had missed his easy-going personality and ways of making a situation turn out right. Stopping her search for a second, Melody could not contain herself and spoke.
"Toliver! It's been forever! You haven't forgotten me, have you? How have you been? Taken any new pictures lately?" Melody rambled on for a minute, bombarding him with questions before she realized that she was being rude. He was looking for something and she was distracting him. Besides, she was talking to fast again.
Calm yourself, Mel. Keep your cool. A suaver version of Melody exclaimed inside her head as she took a deep breath. Giving Toliver a quick apologetic hug that was a little sloppy due to the fact that they were both kneeling, Melody spoke again in a somewhat calmer voice.
"Sorry for getting a bit over-excited there, Toliver. What are we looking for, exactly?" Melody asked, pleading with herself to stay focused. They could chat after Toliver found what he needed.
Patience....patience....~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
